Albert was born in New York and attended the Art Students League of New York. He paints in oil and pastel and is the leading pioneer of the extended application of the pastel medium for painting en plein air.
Albert has co-authored five books on his art and teaching, and in 1987 was the third living American artist to be inducted into the Pastel Society of America’s Hall of Fame. He was honored by a Pastel Retrospective in 2007 at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, and in April 2019 he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Plein Air Convention & Expo in San Francisco.
