The awards for the April 2023 PleinAir Salon Art Competition were announced on May 31st. The selections were made by judge, Catherine Saks, owner of Saks Gallery in Denver, CO. The overall and category winners will now be included in the judging for the 13th Annual PleinAir Salon Competition being awarded in May 2024.

FIRST PLACE

Lana Privitera, Looking for a Way Out
Watercolor, 29×21 in.

“The artist masterfully handled light and shadow in this work. Painted from an interesting perspective, the viewer is drawn in for more details. The curious relationship between the objects is thought- provoking. The artist chose a difficult composition and executed it beautifully.”

SECOND PLACE

Carmen Drake (Owens), Innocence at Dawn
Oil, 10×8 in.

“This portrait went beyond tender and endearing. It captures a glimpse of the personality of the subject. The intricate details in the work are exquisitely created.”

THIRD PLACE

Rosanna Gaddoni (Netherlands), Pastorale
Charcoal & Graphite, 26×19 in.

“This work in charcoal and graphite displays a strong command of draftsmanship. It goes well beyond the subject and is appreciated for the fine detail using a limited palette.”
