The awards for the December 2023 PleinAir Salon Art Competition were announced on January 30th. The selections were made by our judge, Master Artist Camille Przewodek. The overall and category winners will now be included in the judging for the 13th Annual PleinAir Salon Competition being awarded in May 2024.
FIRST PLACE
Terri Ford, Canyon Dusk
Pastel, 28×24 in.
“This painting had a beautiful late afternoon light effect. The shapes in the tree were carefully thought out. Good division of the light/dark patterns. Overall, a stunning painting.”
SECOND PLACE
Steven Walker, Compliments of Fall
Oil, 30×30 in.
“A very solid and well done painting. The barn was the focal point, which was painted and drawn beautifully. I love how this artist handled the grass and trees around the barn.”
THIRD PLACE
Catherine Hillis, Busy Day at DCA
Watercolor, 21×14 in.
“Very unusual composition. It put me right in this building surrounded by glass, with sunlight streaming in. This is a very complicated painting to pull off but very well done, with an unusual perspective.”
CATEGORY WINNERS
Each category award winner is now entered into the Annual Competition. Judges will review all the winners from the 13th Annual PleinAir Salon, and we will award over $22,000 at the Annual Competition held in May 2024.
CATEGORY HONORABLE MENTIONS
The category honorable mention recipients are eligible to re-enter their paintings into future competitions.
TOP 100 FINALISTS
Each month all the entries are reviewed and scored by a judge. The paintings with the highest scores become the Top 100 Finalists. (In the event of tied scores, there may be more than 100). The awards for the monthly competition are selected from this group of finalist.
