The awards for the February 2024 PleinAir Salon Art Competition were announced on March 28th. You can watch the replay here. The selections were made by judge, Darrell Beauchamp, Executive Director of the Western Art Museum. The overall and category winners will now be included in the judging for the 13th Annual PleinAir Salon Competition being awarded in May 2024.

FIRST PLACE

Bill Farnsworth, Looking Easy
Oil, 12×16 in.

“I chose the #1 painting because it is both compositionally well-done and the palette and subject matter appealed to me.  It is atmospheric, well lit, and evokes a sense of place and peacefulness.”

SECOND PLACE

Warren Chang, Fall Tilling
Oil, 34×40 in.

“This painting was selected because it is a subject matter that is often ignored and it is very well-painted. It is masterfully composed, showing migrant workers in background working a field while the two main subjects, one at rest with a fruit in hand and the other pausing work to talk on a cell phone, causing the viewer to wonder why they have stopped work while the others continued.”

THIRD PLACE

Thomas Bucci, Port Clyde Co-Op Cove
Watercolor, 14×21 in.

“This painting was selected because of its atmospheric qualities, its depth and the overall execution and mastery of the watercolor medium.”
